Marta Zaccaria

Marta completed her master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2021 at the University of Bologna, with a thesis project focused on post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms mediated by small non-coding RNAs in Helicobacter pylori.

She then joined the PhD program in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Milan, where she studied cell envelope biogenesis and remodeling in Escherichia coli. Her research aimed to understand how bacteria adapt the structure and composition of their cell wall in response to outer membrane stress conditions. During her PhD, she developed strong expertise in microbial genetics and molecular biology.

As of May 2025, she is a young Post-doc in the Infection Dynamics group, aiming to characterize the strategies employed by Mycobacterium spp. to establish a persistent infection.
